Why did every tv show have a gay couple

There's so much depth to the couple that there are at least 10 things that fans don't know about Cam and Mitch. I waited in front of my TV for other same-sex couples to validate the feelings I had but could not vocalize, to show me that it was possible to find love and be happy as a gay man.

We had gay characters on tv, but they didnt make out with someone every time they were on camera. On rare occasions, a TV series would feature a token character who was typically one-dimensional and not a regular member of the cast.

More and more gay married couples are showing up on TV these days — like Grey's Anatomy, for example — making something of a trend. Mitch and Cam's marriage pushed against societal stereotypes of gay marriage and toxic male tropes.

How TV Brought Gay

Although Willow and Tara were heavily implied to be dating in seasons 4 and 5, Buffy didn't feature an intimate scene between the two, despite other scenes showing Buffy kissing and having sex with male love interests. Many fictional crime dramas have portrayed gang leaders as violent womanizers.

I think the show-runners are actually exploiting lgbtq people. Shameless excelled in depicting the difficulty of revealing one's sexual identity and accurately portraying the trials Ian and Mickey had to overcome to maintain their relationship. In the final season, viewers were treated to an epic in-the-rain kiss between Raymond and Kevin, a wonderfully cheesy romantic scene that all TV queer couples deserve to have as their heterosexual counterparts.

Ian and Mickey, who are the most stable couple in the series, became fan favorites because of their determination to stay together in spite of their family's history of violence, substance abuse, and mental health challenges. The relationship between Omar and Brandon on The Wire changed that perception.

Even when the character's divorced, they made the decision to live together in New York to raise their daughter, which proved to audiences that it's possible to be healthy co-parents and maintain a loving family post-divorce.

Ian and Mickey's courtship on Shameless was the first mainstream series to showcase a young adult male couple's love for one another amid the toxicity and brokenness of their families, and the prejudices of society.
